2025 JA Empower Student and Mentor Lunch
The JA Empower event consists of local high school students taking our JA Job Shadow program, attending a site visit to job shadow an organization, and then attend a mentor lunch. JA Job Shadow is designed to introduce students to the process of planning their career paths through connections to local businesses and employees. The program builds skills and behaviors underlying multiple competencies within the JA Work and Career Readiness Pathway. Classroom sessions are teacher-taught while volunteers lead the off site program sessions. One of the best ways for students to learn about the world of work is to have them spend time on site at a business. By visiting the business they can get a feel for a workplace and ask questions related to a field of interest. The JA Job Shadow site visit experience inspires students to learn and demonstrate the basic skills that will make them valuable assets to any employer.
After the site visit, students attend the JA Empower Student & Mentor Lunch which brings students together for round table discussions with local industry professionals to absorb the information and experiences that they have to offer. The Student & Mentor Lunch provides a critical link for students, as the real-life information provided by the mentors helps young people discover what's possible in their lives by connecting what they learn in school to life outside the classroom.
