2026 JA Empower Student & Mentor Lunch
A Workforce Readiness Initiative

Where: Shreveport Convention Center
The JA Empower event consists of local high school students participating in the JA Job Shadow classroom program and then attending the Student & Mentor lunch. JA Job Shadow is designed to introduce students to the process of planning their career paths through connections to local businesses and employees. The program builds skills and behaviors underlying multiple competencies within the JA Work and Career Readiness pathway. Classroom sessions are teacher-taught while volunteers lead the off site program sessions. One of the best ways for students to learn about the world of work is to have them spend time with professional business leaders. The JA Job Shadow experience inspires students to learn and demonstrate the basic skills that will make them valuable assets to any employer.
The JA Empower Student & Mentor Lunch, Workforce-Readiness Initiative brings students and local industry professionals together for round table discussions to prepare for the workforce. The JA Student & Mentor Lunch provides a critical opportunity for students to experience real-life scenarios using critical thinking to identify and develop soft skills, to learn and practice interview skills, and to develop the confidence and courage needed for a successful future. This experience helps young people discover what's possible in their lives as they connect classroom learning to life outside the classroom.
