Hubert E. Bud Storer was born on May 7, 1931, in Malvern, Iowa. He graduated in 1950 from Creston High School, in Creston, Iowa, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the University of Iowa in 1959. He served in the U. S. Air Force from 1951 until 1955 and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon graduation, he continued his education in a post graduate training program of The Trane Company in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Upon completion of the Trane Student Class, Bud was assigned to the New Orleans Sales Office in the summer of 1959. He agreed to assignment in Shreveport as Tranes sole representative in North Louisiana and East Texas in 1962. In 1967, Mr. Storer was awarded a Shreveport Trane Franchise to represent Trane as an independent agent. The business was incorporated in 1972 as Storer Equipment Company Inc. Today, Storer Equipment employs over ninety full time associates working in equipment sales, parts, service, controls contracting and facilities management.
Mr. Storer was a past president of the National Association of Trane Franchise Holders and has served on its board and numerous committees. Locally, he was involved with First United Methodist Church, having served as Chair of Finance Committee, Chairman of the Church Council, Chairman of the Facilities Improvement Team, and was a member of the Building Committee. He was also involved with Methodists Children Home, Chamber of Commerce, American Association of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineer, Shreveport Bossier Executive Association, Shreveport Rescue Mission, LSUS Foundation, Committee of 100, and Caddo Career and Technology Center.
Mr. Storer was a Presidents Club member in the Iowa University Alumni Association. Several years ago, he endowed an annual award to winners of an entrepreneurial contest for engineering students in his name. With funds from this endowment, several upcoming entrepreneurs have had their initial expenses for their new companies covered.
Mr. Storer received several awards and honors, including the 2005 Samaritan of the Year Award by the Samaritan Counseling Center, Better Business Bureaus 2008 Torch Award for Ethics in Business, and 2009 Outstanding Philanthropist by the North Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations.
In his spare time, Bud enjoyed sports, travel, and the satisfaction of seeing young people learn and succeed in business.
Mr. Storer passed away on July 8, 2013, at the age of 82. He and his wife, Martha D. Allbritton Storer, were married for 33 years. He had four children, Laura, Craig, Mark, and Sheryl, as well as several step-children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
